Why Beginner Art Looks Bad at First

Why beginner art looks bad is something every new artist experiences. When you start painting or drawing, your imagination is far ahead of your skills — and that gap creates frustration.

This stage is not failure. It is learning.

The Skill–Vision Gap in Art

Your eyes improve faster than your hands. You can see mistakes before you know how to fix them. This is exactly why beginner art looks bad, even when effort is honest. Most people quit here, thinking they lack talent. In reality, they quit right before improvement begins.

How to Improve Without Losing Confidence

The solution is simple:

Create regularly, not perfectly

Focus on process, not results

Follow structured guidance

Short daily practice sessions help your hand catch up with your vision.

Follow step-by-step beginner art lessons inside the app.

Every good artist once created bad art. The only difference? They didn’t stop.

The Beginner Phase Every Artist Tries to Skip

Try finding answers for these honestly, they might help you find some answers inside you:

The “skill–eye gap”

Famous artists’ early failures

Why quitting early feels logical but costs growth

All relationships sprout somewhere from your relationship with yourself…
Kisi ne Sahi kaha h, if you don’t love yourself, you can’t love anyone else too…
Find time to work on your relationship with yourself someday, maybe every day. And, sometime, you’ll realize it that it isn’t that difficult to be ‘me’ (you, yourself)!

And ya. Don’t get me wrong. I am not at all asking you to be selfish. Not in the least am I asking you to hurt others, or do wrong things. But trust me, as you dig deep into yourself you will be able to make out the magic that was long hidden behind the thick layers of webs and specks of dirt. Lying somewhere deep within you is the real you, beautiful, loving, lovely, and magical.
Certainly, most of the time the reason for our distressed relationship with others is in effect our distressed relationship with ourselves. Most of us complain that they don’t respect us. Don’t think as nicely of us as they should. Don’t respect our personal columns, etc. Whereas perhaps if you ever take out some time to notice, you will find they simply treat you the way you treat yourselves. They think about you merely the way you think of yourselves. And unquestionably, in some way or the other you inspire others to deal with you the way you deal with yourself!
Allow me to ask you a question. Have you ever met a person whom you greatly honor? If yes then, sit down. Roll back the reel of your memory and see how the person treated themselves when you first saw them. Uhmm.. hmm. I hope you remember how nicely the person thought of herself, how beautifully she carried herself, and how you could feel the charm and the warmth even from a distance.
Therefore, I am bound to repeat that indeed ‘All relationships sprout somewhere from our relationship with ourselves. ‘So the next time you find someone inappropriate towards you, take it as a message. The divine is guiding you that you need to sort out things with yourself.
Life is beautiful. It is finite. Life is impermanent. Life lasts for some finite chapters in a book, even if they number in thousands, which is rarely the case. The number of chapters however may vary. But as important is the entry of the protagonist in a book, as necessary is her exit to be, in some chapters to come no matter how distant or close.
Jo aya hai, use jaana bhi padega is Duniya se. So boss, don’t waste much time before you begin this task of finding yourself and then falling for yourself and loving yourself. You just have to do the former, and the love affair automatically follows.
Presently, you may think differently. And I totally respect that. But, before you accept not to take this suggestion, at least give it a try.

Previously, I was watching the movie Shakuntla Devi, when I verily felt like writing this blog. The plot of the movie revolves around the strained relationship between a mother and a daughter bringing out a beautiful message, close to what we were talking about from the very first line.

Life is analogous to a game of chess apart from the fact that it can go for as long as years or may just last a few days or sometimes, even a few minutes.

After every move of the opponent, we get sort of a puzzle of pieces, to be solved. What the puzzle shall be might not directly be in our hands. But, how we respond to it that is by moving what piece, whether it’s a bishop or a rook or a pawn, is completely up to us. This then decides the turn that our game takes ahead of this move. Each move on our side has a major effect on what comes next and how our following game proceeds.

In fact, a single move is sometimes called a winning move and sometimes, on the contrary, a losing one.
The same is with our lives.

What we often call our destiny is nothing but a particular situation, analogous to a puzzle of chess that we face at each opponent’s move. Just that here the opponent is our life. Ironically, which is not so much against us. But, actually is on the same side. Life puts us in some sort of a circumstance at every moment, and we have to decide which piece we have to move, which action we have to take in that situation, or perhaps which way we have to choose out of the fork presented to us. Destiny doesn’t do all the work, it just brings unanswered questions, and unsolved puzzles to be solved our way, and how it then ends depends upon what we chose and what we move. Isn’t it merely akin to a game of chess?

Shatranj!

So when it comes to making firm decisions, don’t just sit back and blame destiny for presenting difficult situations, and never, never ever feel helpless. Instead, get ready to make a move, make a decision and take a step forward.

It’s this easy! Believe me. It won’t take years to build over yourself, but just a firm will to understand life and welcome it with open arms and free will.

These unanswered questions, these unsolved puzzles, these ups and downs that pass by you are Life.

You may have your own definitions and your own analogies for life. And I trust that all of those are true for you. Yes! Just find out a way through this maze of life, which way takes you out doesn’t matter in the end. But, if and only if you keep going, you will reach the end. And probably on the way, you might realise that this life is not a fix, my dear. It’s a beautiful experience. One that you especially came for, that you actually chose and incarnated for.

In case you are open to sharing, we are eagerly waiting to read your vivid analogies for life.
You may drop an e-mail at tripbohemia.com@gmail.com or write back via a kind comment.

This line ‘The paths of glory lead but to the grave ‘ is written to draw our attention towards the fact that mortality is the ultimate, inevitable truth of life that no circumstance can change. No matter the bags of riches, fame and charm that one may have on his side, he has to taste the same death as the one with none. No matter the bags of riches, fame and charm that one may have on his side, he has to taste the same death as the one with none.

Before being social, man was just an animal. The concept of society led him to search for food, cloth and shelter ( the famous रोटी, कपडा मकान). But as man was able to fulfil his basic needs, the need took the shape of greed. With time as the civilisations came up, competitiveness increased. Materialism and power soon allured man. The man began to walk on a path of glory.

A wise person may become honoured by plugging in patience, hard work and ambition. Not to forget, that to walk the path to glory there needs to be, a balance of needs and sustenance. But one should not be brushed off by the fact that a brute always resides within every being. This brute when drunk with power and pride tends to lose the balance of conscience.

And no matter the amount of pain we endure to collect all the luxuries and possessions, the deathbed shall neither excuse nor negotiate with us.

A lot of other graveyard poets like John Keats, Robert Blair, et cetera have also used their pens to outline this topic and help us realise the dinkum oil.

I recall the poem ‘A Photograph’, from my schoolbook, by Shirley Toulson. Reading this poem was the first time I realised the bitter truth. I still have the quatrain running in my mind,

Now she’s been dead nearly as many years
As that girl lived. And of this circumstance
There is nothing to say at all.
Its silence silences.

Shirley Toulson

Death is indeed a thing about which nothing can be said. It’s silence silences.

Wolfgang Borchert, the environment of the Second World War affected whose work, writes in his play ‘The Outsider’:

“A man dies. Only a few circles in the water prove that he was ever there. And even they quickly disappear. And when they’re gone, he’s forgotten, without a trace, as if he’d never even existed. And that’s all.”

A memento mori (Latin) is an artistic or symbolic reminder of the inevitability of death

In poor health, Steve Jobs, having known of his march being closer to death, tried to describe honestly his sense of death as: “No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new.” Dying is a continuous process which starts as soon as one is born. In softer terms, we call it ageing. Death is the ultimate result of this ongoing process. In fact, the vanity of life is in death. Health remains prized possession because of the cruelty of sickness and life remains so because of unwarranted death.

A thought that makes life full of life is the notion of ‘memento mori’ which means ‘Remember that you must die.’

When somebody used to ask me about my Plan for my Life, it used to bother me a lot. But now I have a Plan.

I have a plan. Trust me.
It’s just that it’s a little different. You might go with a load more instead of a little. But a plan that’s part of everyone’s plan without even their knowing it. Actually, it’s true that we all need to have a plan. But, to date I surprisingly denied it. In fact, it was just yesterday that I had been in an argument with someone about this.
Since my salad days, I preferred to choose the most difficult or famous, or extraordinary profession and claim it to be my passion or my plan. I went preparing for the Medical stream during my plus one and plus two grades. Honestly, I was never enthusiastic about Biology and never had a feeling that this was the one for me throughout my preparation but I kept going because of the rule prevalent in our Society that a plan is a good plan if you stick to it throughout. Not absolutely the wrong saying but there is something in its hypothesis that goes unnoticed here. And, that is that at first one needs to find a plan to be able to stick to it. Although, surprisingly nobody in effect taught us how exactly that should be done.

As it happens,

some of our elders or teachers or neighbors just skipped the necessary hard work and merely told us to choose from the easily visible Medical Sciences, Technological Sciences, or Arts and Humanities. As per their not-so-apt analysis, the rest was of little worth. Or if put out another way, the remaining areas where one could explore his or her interests were only worth being taken as a hobby.

So as per what I learned, I chose something for me that seemed to be appreciated by the crowd without thinking of how much it intrigued me, if at all it did.
But finally, after two years of rigorous preparations, I backed out. I didn’t sit for the exam despite filling the fee for the exam, despite downloading the permit card for the examination Centre, and spite wasting quite a large sum on the books and my coaching (that I didn’t attend for almost one and a half years though it was a two-year long process). I don’t know what exactly pulled me back then. Whether it was my fear, my calling, my sudden love for maths, or maybe something else. I am not sure about it. I kept searching for the answer till this day, roughly five years after the moment when I actually took the decision to pull back. Though am still not sure about the answer but I have realized that it doesn’t matter anymore.
Whatever it was, it was one of the best decisions that I have ever taken. Because firstly it was the first time I took a stand for something that didn’t depend upon what others thought about it, secondly I was firm, thirdly I just felt it was the right thing, fourthly I didn’t forcefully push myself in something that was far away from my interests, fifthly I discovered I could be anything but a doctor as blood and sick people scare me out of my wits, I can soothe them and sit by them but not play the doctor, lastly life has always made funny, sudden, crisp and the best decisions for me and so I am getting used to accepting it now. Accepting life as and when it comes.
I am open to going wherever it takes me. That’s the plan! One that I have discovered works as does a jewel in a crown for me.
You have to have faith in life’s plan. Initially, you may not see the good behind it. But the answers you come across may leave you surprised if you are patient and observant enough to wait for them. And I may bet that life’s plan for you will be undoubtedly many times better and bigger than the one you would have thought. At times, life may benumb you by taking you on trails you think might never cross your paths, bringing you together with people who seemed too sour, complicated, or frigid in the beginning et cetera helping you budge way beyond your boundaries.
By the way, I fell in love with the aesthetics during all this. It’s been a while now. I fell in this love long ago, probably since I came into this world. It just took me a little longer to realize that. And now I know that Mathematics is spiritual and poetic and so is music. But that’s not enough for me to choose it forever. But yes. This is enough for me to at the least give it a just try. And then decide if this journey is the one to be continued or rather the one that takes me to the path waiting for me to be walked by.

When somebody used to ask me about my Plan for my Life, it used to bother me a lot. But now I have a Plan. And this question doesn’t worry me now.

An incident recently took place near where I live. Two boys probably of our age or a Lil elder came with pistols and shot the two others dead!
The ones who died had as likely as not nothing to do with anything that the shooters were to do with. The shooters apparently came looking for a boy who has witnessed a murder in their village and gave his statement against the murderer in the law of court. The shooters, maybe the friends of the murderer, or perhaps his coworkers, came looking for the boy who gave the statement. The boy who did very likely give the statement, on finding out about the shooters approaching, in order to sneak in, came to his friends who stayed in a rented apartment. His friends all things being equal hid him in the bathroom and thought that the shooters would likely never reach them.
What happened next, that I wasn’t a witness of, was that the shooters came and shot the three friends, who were hiding the one who gave the statement, and of which two died on the spot and one was saved by his blanket, that the bullet couldn’t surpass.

Who then do you think is more wrong…?

The three friends, out of which two lost their lives, are they to be punished or blamed for hiding their friend?
Or the friend who hid, to save his life is to be held responsible for the murder of his two friends, though he didn’t plan for them to die?
Correspondingly, or are the shooters to be blamed, who obviously are worth no less than being hanged for taking two probably innocent lives? For taking the task of killing the witness probably for some money, unknowing about anything else that got to do with it.
Or probably the so-called murderer to be held for sending the shooters who couldn’t aim the correct person? Or maybe the person didn’t, at first, send the shooters at all. Rather maybe the person did not commit a murder previously that he was charged for but planned to do one after being harassed and punished for the same for a long. Is then he to be penalized?

            To be honest,

I heard the entire story through my neighbors, the newspapers et cetera, and wasn’t a first-hand spectator of the incident.
But at a distance, when everyone is making judgments, planning to make lesser friends as they may bring you bad luck, planning for thorough identification checks of their tenants before they rent them their properties, or planning to call the ones who died innocent, and the one who hid the one to be blamed for their death, … what I see is a group of seven people behind the mist, of whom everyone was in some proportion a culprit and in some proportion an innocent, however, the proportions may vary!
Had I Been the judge when this case was to be held in the law of court, I would have either punished all of them, differently or would have let all of them go…

Whom shall you punish in this case had you been the judge in the court of law?
Don’t judge me…

I am qualified to be no judge. I am a person of Mathematics instead. So I may be wrong.
But,

but I think when we are judging someone we at times forget to look at the other half of him or her, focusing more on some aspects than others. No person is totally right or totally wrong. There is something in between the two that should be designated to them… A person is that way because he lived up to it, he read such books that thought that way, because he was brought up in a street where he experienced that all that made him think that way and…
So maybe don’t judge at all and leave it to the phrase that I can’t tell till I wear his or her shoes his or her way!

Thanks for coming!
Hope to see you soon.

I acknowledge your cheer that comes when I hear that I Write Beautifully. But to add …

I write, trivially. That’s it.

Beautiful or not, is an adjective. Which is more a part of you, than what I say.

You read it with your perception, and got a lesson or a few, at some modest day.

I too read my blogs. Words, though with similar sounds, sound different each vanilla day.

Words like life, also have meanings that keep changing.

So, Keep reading!

~ Ishika Aggarwal

Life for me has a different role to play

happiness at time

and sometimes dismay

It’s during these extremes

that the words begin to sing, dance, and play

and by themselves

in the sentences lay

and last, some people may say,

“What you write, is what begins my workaday!”

I don’t write beautifully,

Please don’t say.

I just pick up the pen and it let it roll freely sometimes

stitching long paragraphs or a seeming array

I too read them, at least once an ordinary day

So, I too learn from what the words have to say

Words, like life, keep changing and

have a different meaning, each moment & each usual day.

There is an exercise I would like to add, if you allow me to say?

Write down a word and

Do read it each plain day

let the word be the one that doesn’t exists

Sew one from the mind-mix

Then read it everyday

And in a week or so, it will convey

a new message, day-to-day

Follow it

~ Ishika Aggarwal

Words are actually childlike

even at rest, they are actually at play

What sentences they sew, I have no clue about,

to be honest I say

playfully, they themselves make the array,

“So, I don’t remember what I do write and say,

Words are capable to write and say,

reading which even I accept and reveal,

Oh my goodness! This writer blows me off!

May I know who she is,

So ordinary a meaning who un-conceals,”

The words I write are new to me

as for you, when you read

And more new to me

every successive study-read

Unlike the quotidian things that wither with time,

these words grow newer each day!

~ Ishika Aggarwal

So something that flows beyond conventions,

and becomes newer, and younger each day is

A string, since childhood, we all sing than say

Abcdefghi.. jklmop.. qrstuvw…

xyZ.

~ Ishika Aggarwal
